WEEK ONE
TIME SHEET (excel)
Monday, May 15- Day 1
5/15/17
Today was my first day at my internship for Cleveland Baseball Federation. I met everyone in the office and they are all very nice! I also got a tour of the whole Cleveland City Hall which is very cool because it is so big. This first thing I did was that I was learning how to do the paperwork and did a lot of that and filing and entering the player's contracts into an excel sheet. The players need the contracts because it is important if the kids get hurt, CBF is responsible for that.
Tuesday, May 16- Day 2
5/16/17
I finished the contracts that I did not finish yesterday and got a few new ones this morning. I called a few coaches asking them about some missing information from the players contracts. Since Cleveland is so big, they are divided into wards based on where they live. I had to find all of the players wards and put it into the excel sheet.
Wednesday, May 17- Day 3
5/17/17
Today I had to call all of the rec centers in Cleveland and confirm the dates, times, and field location for the Rookie League team practices. I then made sure that the information was correct and made the field permits for the coaches. The coaches need permits for the field so they know that they are able to be on the field during that time. If they do not have permits they will not be allowed on that field during the time they would like to practice.
Thursday, May 18- Day 4
5/18/17
I finished the field permits that I could not finish the day before. I just had to put the first date of their games to the last date of the games so they know when the fields are reserved for. I then went and printed the permits that I thought were finished and began editing them.
WEEK TWO
Monday, May 22- Day 5
5/22/17
I was pretty busy this whole day. I entered information on the adult league into the system. For every game, the coaches need to give us their score card so we knows who plays and who does not play. So I had to go into the roster and mark whether certain players played or they did not. We got more player contracts so I entered the new contracts that I received into the excel sheet.
Tuesday, May 23- Day 6
5/23/17
Today was a no different day in the office. I updated the player contracts that I received. I made phone calls to some of the Rec Center’s saying that the parent/ guardian did not sign the contract and the Rec Center Manager had to come and pick up the ones that were not signed. Then she has to bring it back to me so I am able to put the player into the excel sheet.
Wednesday, May 24- Day 7
5/24/17
I assorted the vehicle keys to see how many extra keys or if we had any keys at all for all the Rec Centers. This is important because they have to know whether they have enough keys or need to make keys for the Rec Centers.
Thursday, May 25- Day 8
5/25/17
I received many more players contracts today and I put them into the excel sheet. I then counted and organized how many players have gave me contracts for each rec center. I then let my boss review some of the field permits and I edited them again.
Friday, May 26- Day 9
5/26/17
I had to put in a word document and organize how much equipment each rec center needed. For example I had to put that Cuddell Rec Center needed 1 dozen of softie baseballs, 2 helmets, 3 right handed gloves, 1 left handed gloves, and so on. I had to do this for all of the Rec Centers for T-ball and the Rookie League. The Rookie League for Cleveland Baseball Federation is pretty much the same thing as coach pitch.
WEEK THREE
Tuesday, May 30- Day 10
5/30/17
Today was a normal day in the office. As soon as I arrived, I received player contracts and then had to put them in the excel sheet. I then had a little off time so I started to work on my website. Then, I got more contracts and had to find the ward numbers for each player which take a little time because you have to type in each individual player's address to find out what ward they live in. The last thing I had to do was print the Mickey Mantle schedules for each teams. The Mickey Mantle teams are ages 15-16 year old.
Wednesday, May 31- Day 11
5/31/17
My day started off really slow. Then it picked up because I had all these Rec Centers give me player contracts at the same time. When they hand me contracts I am suppose to make sure that they have a name, birthday, phone number, address, coachs signature, and parent signature. Those are the important things I look for. So I have to stamp them, copy them and look through them fast so they are not standing here waiting for them. We have this online website that all the Rec Centers are suppose to enter all of the players information. If there is missing information on my form, i can then go into this website and see if the Rec Center entered the information. If the parent or coach did not sign the contract, I then have to call the Rec Center manager and tell them they have to sign it or give it back to the parent to sign and then give it back to me. It is a hassle if the parents did not sign it. This is why it is easier if the Rec Center Manager looked at all the contracts before handing them back to me.
Thursday, June 1- Day 12
6/1/17
Some of the T-ball Leagues (4-7 year old) Rookie Leagues (8-12 year old), their coaches emailed me their schedules. So I had to go into the field permits that I made and made sure that their schedule and my permit dates and times match up. For example, Michael Zone & Clark said on their permit they were practicing from 5-7 pm on Wednesdays, but on the schedule it said 5-7 pm on Mondays. So I had to go back into the permits and change the times because their schedules are more up to date.
Friday, June 2- Day 13
6/2/17
Today was a normal day of working on contracts and putting them into the systems.
WEEK FOUR
Monday, June 5- Day 14
6/5/17
Since the schedules need to get out next week, contracts have been coming in a lot lately because they want to play and they cannot play if they do not have contracts in. I also helped coached my first practice with the girls fastpitch tryout. Today, we started off with simple drills so the inexperienced girls have a chance to catch onto things. We practiced infield drills (where I helped) where we did, short hops, backhand, and forehand drills. Then everyone was put into groups for hitting and I was at a hitting station where I throw the girls a tennis ball and the ball has a number written on it and they have to stand in their batting stance and catch the ball with their back hand and before they catch it, they have to say what the number is. This is a really good drill for the girls to keep their eye on the ball. I never really coached like this before, but I loved it because I want to make the girls better players and of course, I love the sport.
Tuesday, June 6- Day 15
6/6/17
Again, I got a lot of contracts, and had to call the rec centers to see where the missing contracts were. I then helped coached the girls tryouts again. We pretty much did the same thing as the previous day, warmed up, threw, practiced running bases, and I was then put in the infield drills again. I helped coach the first base players and critiqued their techniques. I then pitched softoss to the girls and there were other players shagging.
Wednesday, June 7- Day 16
6/7/17
I knew coming in today I was going to be busy. I had a stack of player contracts that I had to input. I also had adult contracts I had to input their information and got scorecards and I had to mark on the excel sheet whether they played or not. I have also been working on the player's ward numbers. Today was also the second day of the girls fast pitch practice clinic. I got there and help set up and then I helped one of the Oberlin Softball Coaches with outfield drills. They worked on drop step mainly. After that we were split into hitting groups and my group was working on inside and outside pitch. I told the girls where to hit them pitches and critiqued their swing.
Thursday, June 8- Day 17
6/8/17
Today I had more contracts to do. I then went with another co worker to visit one of the Rec Centers called Halloran. Halloran is where all of the other Rec Centers pick up their uniforms, equipment and everything they need to be ready to play. They showed me around and what equipment we have so far and what else we need to receive. Then when we receive all of the equipment, I will then help my co worker assign what each Rec Center needs and how many uniforms they need and then the Rec Centers will come pick up their stuff when we are all done.
Friday, June 9- Day 18
6/8/17
Today I was told that I had to put all of the contracts that I have received in alphabetical order. I had about 550 player contracts at this point. So I had to go into the filing cabinet where we keep all of the contracts and put them in ABC order.
WEEK FIVE
Monday, June 12- Day 19
6/12/17
Today I met my other coworker at the Rec Center called Halloran. We separated all of the equipment into boxes for the t- ball and Rookie league Rec Centers. Each Rec requested a certain amount of equipment so we had to count to see if we received the right amount of equipment and then separate them into each Rec Centers.
Tuesday, June 13- Day 20
6/13/17
Since I was not in the office yesterday, I had many contracts to do. I did those all day and once again found the wards for each player. I also finished putting the contracts in alphabetical order. Today was the first day of tryouts and we had about thirty girls which is very good considering we only take about 13 girls on the team. I helped warm the girls up throwing. And we timed the girls from home to first base, and then second base to home plate and I helped time those. Then we worked on infield plays. After that we did live pitching and did a real life game with base runners and fielders. I was coaching third base so I had to give the girls signs (bunt, steal) and then I had to coach them when they were on the bases.
Wednesday, June 14- Day 21
6/14/17
Today I learned how to use the laminating machine. I had to laminate the league rules and put them in each of the coaches folder. I had to put the league rules, schedule, manager's number list, and a score book and all of the coaches get the same thing. I also went to to one of the Rec Centers called Estabrook where I helped pass out uniforms for the players.
Thursday, June 15- Day 22
6/15/17
I went back to Halloran, one of the Rec Centers and helped count and organize the shirts and hats. We then counted how many contracts each center had and determined how many shirts and hats they get.
Friday, June 16- Day 23
6/16/17
I received more Tball and Rookie League schedules so I went back into the permits to see if I had the right days and times and if not, I corrected them to what they had on their schedule. Some teams have already started playing even when the permits are not done yet.
WEEK SIX
Monday, June 19- Day 24
6/19/17
Today I worked on the Little F coaches packets (ages 12-14) and laminated the rules, and had to put a score book and player line up cards in each of the coaches packets. I also had a lot of contracts to do from the weekend.
Tuesday, June 20- Day 25
6/20/17
I walked into the office and had contracts to enter into the system. I also had to input some adult baseball league contracts that I got today and had to mail back the copies. The T ball and Rookie League coaches make up their own schedule because it is less important for the younger kids. For them it is to have fun and stay out of trouble and learn the skills they need to get better. Since all of the coaches got their schedules sent in (finally.. Two weeks late) I went back to look at all of them to see if they made any mistakes with two teams playing each other two weeks in a row, or the dates that they had on the schedule. I also got to learn how to make a team schedule with 4 teams, 5 teams, 6 teams, and so on. There is this little chart that you can go by that will help make it easier and to make sure that no team plays each other twice in a row.
Wednesday, June 21- Day 26
6/21/17
Today was a pretty slow day, so I did not work that long, I did what I needed to do and then I went home. I had contracts to do and had to laminate some schedules for the Little F team (12-14 year olds). I then went to watch softball games, I have to go to get the final score card. This is important because Indians baseball is teamed up with Cleveland Baseball Federation, so at the end of the season, we have to give the score cards to MLB to make sure everyone was playing. Also, I have to make sure everyone has equipment, enough players, and making sure they are actually playing. It sounds silly to do, but some of the Rec Centers do not care as much because they are not getting paid to do this so I have to make sure that everything is going smoothly.
Friday, June 23- Day 27
6/23/17
Today was the day of our fundraiser at the Indians game. We got there before the game started and set up. Myself and two other girls were in charge of the Mystery Bags, where we had to go around and sell them and they exchanged their ticket in for a prize (most were autographed baseballs, autographed jerseys, tickets, and autographed baseball bats). When all of those were sold out, we then had to go around and sell the wine tickets where they bought a ticket and they had the chance to win 24 expensive bottles of wine and everyone got a little wine glass who bought the tickets. When that was all finished, we were able to eat and watch the game. I still helped out and helped people check in. We finished checking people in until the fifth inning of the game. Most people were there by then, and then we were able to watch the game. When the game was over, we had to clean everything up and take everything back to the car.
WEEK SEVEN
Monday, June 26- Day 28
6/26/17
Today was a normal, slow Monday. I got into the office and I had contracts to enter into the system. I then was able to enter the adult player contracts into the system and mark whether they played or not. I then went to make sure that the softball games were going fine at one of the parks.
Tuesday, June 27- Day 29
6/27/17
Today I helped schedule games because of the rain outs that happened last week. I also worked on contracts. Today was the first day of the RBI girls practice. They all met each other and practiced together as a whole. We worked on infield drills and hitting the outside pitch. I helped with one of the drills where you throw a Frisbee and you have to make sure that your hands are going up and down, just like swinging a bat.
Wednesday, June 28- Day 30
6/28/17
Today I edited the adult softball contracts. I also edited the schedules to put the correct scores with the right teams and the standings for each team. Then I emailed the coaches saying how many games they have left and let them know of the make up dates from the rain out. I went to watch the games and Gordon Park to make sure everything was going smoothly. I also got contracts from the one team.
Thursday, June 29- Day 31
6/29/17
Today I did the same thing as yesterday, I edited the schedules and team standings for each team. This is important because play offs are coming up and so we need to know what teams are going to make it to the playoffs or not.
Friday, June 30- Day 32
6/30/17
We still do not have a lot of contracts for the Mickey Mantle teams (15-16 year old), Connie Mack (17-19 year old) and Girls fast pitch (15-18 year old). I had to call the coaches and see if they have any contracts and reminding them that they have zero or minimal contracts. This is not good because the season is halfway over and we have to submit the rosters to MLB and we are allowing players to play on the field without contracts which is unacceptable.
WEEK EIGHT
Monday, July 10- Day 33
7/10/17
Today I had quite a few contracts to do. I also had to update the adult baseball attendance because they are having a meeting with those teams and players Tuesday evening. I also had to make a Code of Conduct form for that meeting on Tuesday because the adults have been acting like little kids so this form when signed gives us the right that they are not allowed to do anything out of order.
Tuesday, July 11- Day 34
7/11/17
I had to fix some schedules because of the rain outs that have happened so I had to figure out when those rain out games would fit into each team's schedule before playoffs happen. Then I had to make a separate document of the rest of the season games so that the coaches and players know when, where, and who they play each game. We also had practice today with the girls before they leave to go to Regional's in Detroit, Michigan this weekend. They did infield/ outfield drills and situational plays. Then they did hitting stations and focusing on the inside pitch, keeping their hands to the ball and extending their hands straight forward.
Thursday, July 13- Day 35
7/13/17
Today I worked on field permits for specific football, track, fundraising events. Anybody can request a field permit, but not everyone gets accepted for one. They first have to get accepted (which I do not deal with) and once they are accepted, I have to put all their information in the format given, and then we have to submit the permit I made up to the field advisers. We got new equipment for volleyball so I helped organize that new equipment so it was easier for the coaches to take.
WEEK NINE
Monday, July 17- Day 36
7/17/17
Today I entered the adult baseball attendance and marked who played what game. I also got more adult contracts, and had to make copies and send back the original copies to the coaches. This is to make sure that both of us have a copy of their contract in case something does happen. I then had to go watch the games to make sure everything went alright. Good thing I showed up because the one team had to forfeit because they did not have enough players to play. So I had to call my boss and ask what to do. And since the one team did not have enough players, both teams scrimmaged each other for a few innings and I stayed to watch and kept score for them.
Tuesday, July 18- Day 37
7/18/17
Today I worked on random field permits that teams or organizations want to request a field for. Today was the first practice when the girls got back from Regional’s. The girls went 4-0 and won Regional’s, but their hitting was not great. So at practice today, we focused on hitting. The girls were getting distracted and off topic and we made them focus and then they had a great second part of the practice.
Wednesday, July 19- Day 38
7/19/17
I worked on more field permits for Cleveland Muny Football league. There are about twenty teams in this league and I had to make a field permit for each team on a separate field. I had to coach the Estabrook Rec Center because their coach was not there. It was a great experience because I never did anything like this by myself. I had to make up the line up, put girls in positions, give them hitting signals, and help their form in the field or batting. I was scared at first, but I wasn’t sure why because I have been playing softball my whole life and I know what to do. Even though we won one game, and lost the other it was a fun experience and a great learning experience too.
Thursday, July 20- Day 39
7/19/17
Today, my last day I visited a few of the Rec Centers and saw what the managers do at each center. This was very interesting to me because this is what I wanted to see the whole summer, to see what the managers did day to day. Some rec centers were nicer than others for instance, some had a swimming pool, and others did not. Some were kept cleaner than others. It all depended on the manager if the rec center was kept up to date and clean or not. I think it would be cool to be a manager for a rec center because you are in charge of the whole building. Yes, if there are problems, you are the one to solve it, but in the end, you get to see all of the kids have fun and enjoy their summer at the rec center (it is free) while their parents are at work all day.
